The Spitalfields Market Alternative Fashion Week 2008
Well, it’s another year and another Alternative Fashion Week has successfully debuted some of the most promising budding alternative designers London has to offer.
Alternative Fashion Week (21st – 25th April) is the biggest event for new designers of alternative clothing to show off their design prowess. This year, over sixty young designers displayed their pieces, showing influences from the darker shades of rock apparel to the vibrant colours of punk clothing right through the kitsch and camp of Japanese sub-cultures.
Things kicked off this year with Kate Edwards’ outer space-inspired collection with metallic-shaded pieces echoing the far more extreme characteristics of cyber punk clothing. Things took a turn for the decidedly kinky with Kaori Matsubara’s “Latex Dreams” and Robert Miller’s “Pretty Pervy”.
Ricardo Ramos closed things off with a ‘Back to the Roots’ collection combining traditional Columbian garb with the bright vibrant colours of early punk clothing and accessories. The clothes were modelled by some fun and energetic dancing models.
