Iron Fist Clothing has got to be one of the most original brands of the
century on the alternative clothing scene. The idea was created in San Diego,
California in 2001 when two guys from South Africa, Mike and Travis wanted to
create clothing they couldn't find anywhere else. With a long history in
skateboarding, surfing, art, music and street culture the guys wanted to return
to the energy and brand attitude of the rebellious years, when skateboarders
lived on the streets and having a Mohican would get you kicked out of
Disneyland. They had no marketing strategy or big budget, just great product
ideas and killer artwork that inspired the kids who were bored with unoriginal
streetwear brands that had saturated the market.
Their first retail outlet was the boot of Travis' car, and in the space of only
eight years Iron Fist has grown beyond their wildest dreams, with international
distribution in UK and Europe, USA and Canada, South Africa, Australia, the
Middle East and Russia plus retailers in virtually every major city in the
world. Iron Fist has flagship stores in Cape Town, South Africa and the Czech
Republic with plans to open more in the future.
Iron Fist Clothing is now well known for its popularity with
bands and artists such as My Chemical Romance (MCR), Taking Back Sunday, Rise
Against, The Bronx, Tommy Lee and Avril Lavigne to name a few. In fact when
Avril Lavine recently launched her own clothing line she requested that Iron
Fist shoes were worn by all the models – how incredible is that for a fledgling
company?
Perhaps one of Iron Fist's key assets is its honesty and integrity, real
clothing made by real people. Its artwork and styling sets it apart from many other
street wear brands. The Iron Fist customer comes in many guises but above all
they are original, they create their own style and they wear something because
they love it – and don’t care what other people think. They refuse to be
pigeonholed into a street, skate, emo, punk, hip hop or tattoo genre.
Iron Fist Clothing has grown in popularity purely because of its diversity
and constantly innovative approach to each collection. The designers have a
complete disregard for what is considered to be fashionable – they are beyond
following trends – they are creating them. The artwork used on their t shirts,
hoodys, caps and shoes is exceptional, from some of the world's best underground
designers and street artists.
Iron Fist is not for every one - people buy it because they have never quite
seen anything else like it and never will again. Each and every piece is a wearable work of art that makes people
stop you in the street – especially the shoes.
Sometimes when you look at a new collection, you think “is it too much,
have they gone too far?” but those end up being the best and most popular designs.
Take the Zombie Stomper shoes for example, these have ended up being one of
Iron Fist’s fastest and best selling platform heels.
When you look at each new collection, everything fits and has a theme. There is continuity and it all makes
sense. The garments always fit well,
the girls t-shirts and vest tops are generously cut and appeal to a twenty
something customer as well as teens. Not many brands could create a range that
you could wear head to toe without looking like a fashion victim - with Iron
Fist you can. For girls it’s all about the top and the shoes, ok they make
jeans too but they are under stated in order to showcase the artwork of the
other pieces.
For guys its about the tshirts, hoodies and maybe a cap if you really want
to push the boat out. Iron Fist make
looking cool and individual effortless even for the most clueless guy. Just put
on an Iron Fist t-shirt – even with the worst pair of jeans and you will look
good – even if you just woke up!
